Re – Works in Progress at Delimara -
Marsaxlokk Harbour
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies mariners that further to Notice to Mariners No. 19 of 2015 regarding works in progress at Delimara – Marsaxlokk Harbour, several piles have been placed within the works in progress area mentioned in Notice to Mariners No. 19 of 2015.
 
Yellow flashing lights have been placed on several piles in positions U, V, W, X, Y and Z as indicated on the chart that can be found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt).
 
In view of the above all mariners of unauthorised vessels to navigate with caution and very slow  ‘no wake’ speed. They are to keep at a safe distance and obey instructions as given by the Marsaxlokk Port control (VTS) on VHF Channel 14.

Swimming Event Between Mellieħa Bay
and St George’s Bay
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies that The Ladybird Foundation will be organising a swimming and kayak event. The Swimming event is to take place between Mellieħa Bay (near Tunny Net) and St Julians (near Radisson Baypoint). The kayak event is round Malta starting and ending at the Radisson Baypoint.
 
The swimming participants will depart from Mellieħa bay at approximately 6.30 a.m. on Sunday, 20th September, 2015. They are to swim along the east coast towards the Radisson Baypoint, St Julians. (as shown on chart that can be found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt)) The Kayak participants will depart from the Radisson Baypoint resort at about 10.00 p.m. on Saturday, 19th September, 2015 and expected to return to the same place at about 2.00 p.m. of Sunday, 20th September, 2015. Both events are weather permitting.
Support vessels will accompany the participating swimmers.
 
Mariners are advised to keep a sharp lookout and navigate at slow speed and keep well clear of the area during the stipulated time giving the swimmers and kayakers a wide berth. They are to obey any instructions issued by Valletta Port Control (Valletta VTS)

Firework Displays in Grand Harbour 
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies that firework displays will be let off from barges moored 200m off Bighi Point on the following dates and times:
 
Barges: 
 
Friday 4th September 2015: from 8.00 a.m. till 8.15 a.m., from noon till 12.15 p.m. and between 8.00 p.m. and 9.10 p.m.
 
Saturday 5th September 2015: from 8.00 a.m. till 8.15 a.m., from noon till 12.15 p.m. and between 8.00 p.m. till 9.10 p.m.
Sunday 6th September 2015: from 8.00 a.m. till 8.20 a.m., from noon till 12.20 p.m., from 7.00 p.m. till 8.00 p.m. and from 9.00 p.m. till 10.45 p.m.
Monday 7th September 2015: from 8.00 a.m. till 8.20 a.m., from noon till 12.20 p.m., from 6.00 p.m. till 7.00 p.m. and from 9.45 p.m. till 11.15 p.m.

The barges to be used for the fireworks displays will display the signals in accordance with the Collisions Regulations (anchor ball during the day and all round white light at night) and shall be moored on Friday, 4th September, 2015 in the following position:

A wide berth of 200 meters is requested from the position of the barge on the days and times indicated above. Fireworks Displays in St Julian’s Bay
               
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies that fireworks displays in connection with the feast of St Gregory will be let off from:
 
1) the jetty at point B as shown on the chart  found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt) on the following dates and times:                    
 
Friday, 4th September, 2015 from 10.00 p.m. to 10.30 p.m.
 
Saturday, 5th September 2015, from 10.15 p.m. to midnight.
 
Sunday, 6th September 2015, from 9.30 p.m. till 11.00  p.m. 
All vessels and bathers are warned to keep clear and maintain a minimum distance of not less than 100 meters from the Jetty during the above-mentioned displays.

Marsalforn to Sliema Swim
Saturday, 5th September, 2015
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies mariners that a swimming event is to be held from Marsalforn - Gozo to Sliema – Malta on Saturday, 5th September, 2015.
 
This event will start from Marsalforn, Gozo (A) at 6.30 a.m. and will proceed across the east side of the Maltese Islands towards Sliema, Malta (B) as shown on the chart that can be found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt).  A time limit of twelve (12) hours has been set by the Organising Board.
 
All participating swimmers will be accompanied by support vessels Reg. 15281 (Free Spirit II) and Reg. S9111.  Ambulance Team from the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (E.R.R.C.) using rescue boat/hydro ambulance Reg. S20841 will be in attendance.
 
Mariners are advised to keep a sharp lookout, keep clear of the area during the stipulated time and give the swimmers a wide berth.

The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies that the 8 September 2015 Regatta will be held in Grand Harbour. Sinkers and marker buoys will be laid as follows:

 

 

 

1. On Monday, 7th September, 2015, 3 sinkers with marker buoys will be laid in the following positions:

3. The wire ropes and floats will be removed on the completion of the Regatta at approximately 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 8th September, 2015.

 

4. The sinkers and marker buoys mentioned in 1 above will then be removed on Wednesday, 9th September, 2015.

 

 

 

Masters of all vessels are notified that on Tuesday 8th September 2015 between 9.00 a.m. and about 7.30 p.m., incoming vessels will not be allowed to proceed to any berth South West of a line joining Lascaris and Fort St Angelo Flagstaff.  Small craft in “The Marsa” will not be allowed to proceed beyond the starting line indicated in (2d) above after 9.00 a.m. No vessel will be allowed near the finishing line except those involved in the races. No movements of vessels will be allowed inside Grand Harbour, except by special permission.

 

 

 

Masters of all vessels are also warned that the wire ropes and floats may cause a physical obstruction and consequently they are to navigate with caution. They are to maintain a minimum safe distance of 5 meters from these ropes and floats. Caution is also to be exercised when in the vicinity of such wire ropes and floats when these are being laid or removed. Mariners are instructed to obey any instructions issued by the Police, Transport Malta Enforcement officers and Armed Forces of Malta patrolling the area and by Valletta VTS (Valletta Port Control).

Local Notice to Mariners No. 61 of 2015
 
Restoration and Revetment of breakwater at il-Veċċja, St. Paul’s Bay
 
 The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies mariners that the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture will be carrying out restoration work on the breakwater at il-Veċċja, St. Paul’s Bay.
 
A silt curtain will be erected round the breakwater.
 
The work involves the use of divers who will be displaying the International code flag “A” (diver down keep well clear at slow speed) while diving operations are being carried out.
 
Weather permitting the works are expected to commence on Monday, 24th August, 2015 and completed by Friday, 11th December, 2015.
 
In view of the above all vessels, moorings and ground tackle that are in the vicinity of the indicated area A, B, C and D as shown on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt) must be removed by Sunday, 23rd August, 2015 in order that the mentioned work may commence.
 
No liability will be accepted for any vessel, mooring and ground tackle that are left in the area and may be damaged after the stipulated date. Masters of vessels that lie in the vicinity of the area are to cooperate with the contractor to facilitate this work.
 
Furthermore mariners and operators of vessels are advised to keep a sharp lookout and proceed at very slow speed.
 
Instructions given by Valletta Port Control (VTS) on VHF Channel 12 are to be complied with.

Submarine Trenching Works at Sliema Creek, Marsamxett Harbour
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies mariners that submarine trenching works will be carried out in Sliema Creek, off Manoel Island Bridge in Marsamxett Harbour along an imaginary line AB as shown on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt).
 
The works are expected to commence on Monday, 31st August, 2015 and completed by end of November, 2015.
 
Works will be undertaken from a rubble (aggregate) platform which will be laid from A to B as shown on the chart, from where the works will be undertaken.
 
In view of the above all vessels, moorings and ground tackle that are in the vicinity of the indicated line AB must be removed immediately and not later than Sunday, 30th August, 2015, in order that the platform may be placed. Mariners are to note that the area between the rubble platform and the bridge will be closed off. Hence any vessels lying within are to be removed as well.
 
No liability will be accepted for any vessel, mooring and ground tackle that are left in the area and may be damaged after the stipulated date. Masters of vessels that lie in the vicinity of the area are to cooperate with the contractor to facilitate this work.
 
Furthermore mariners and operators of vessels are advised to keep a sharp lookout and proceed at very slow speed.

The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies Mariners that fireworks will be let off from the foreshore of Manoel Island in Sliema Creek, centered in Position:

Monday, 17th August, 2015 from 7.15. p.m. till 7.45 p.m.
 
Friday, 21st August, 2015 from 9.00 a.m. till 9.15 a.m., from noon till 12.15 p.m., and between 10.00 p.m. and 11.00 p.m.;
Saturday, 22nd August, 2015 from 9.00 a.m. till 9.30 a.m., from noon till 12.30 p.m., and between 6.00 p.m. and 11.30 p.m.;
 
Sunday, 23rd August, 2015 from 9.00 a.m. till 9.15 a.m., from noon till 12.10 p.m., and between 9.30 p.m. and 11.30 p.m.;
 
In view of the above, mariners are informed that navigation within 200 meters from the above position in Marsamxett Harbour will be prohibited during the time of fireworks. All craft moored within the indicated area (as shown on the chart) are to be removed on the above-mentioned dates and times of the fireworks displays.
 
Fireworks known as Chinese cakes will also be let off from the area known as “ix-Xalet – Għar id-Dud”, Sliema on Wednesday, 19th August, 2015 at 11.30 p.m. Vessels are to keep 60m away during this time.
 
Further to the above, ground fireworks will be held at the Strand, Sliema on Saturday, 22nd August, 2015 between 11.00 p.m. and midnight. Vessels in the vicinity and within 20 meters of these ground fireworks are to be removed.
 
Mariners are to obey directives issued by the Valletta Port Control (Valletta VTS), and by Police in the area.

Malta-Gozo-Malta Open Sea Swimming Challenge Saturday, 29th August, 2015
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies mariners that the Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club will be organizing a Malta-Gozo-Malta Open Sea Swimming Challenge on Saturday, 29th August, 2015.
 
This event will start from Marfa Bay off the Riviera Hotel, Malta at 6.15 a.m. and will proceed across the East side of the Comino Channels towards il-Blata tal-Ħalfa (near Ras il-Qala) in Gozo and back towards Marfa Bay off the Riviera Hotel, Malta. A time limit of five (5) hours and thirty (30) minutes has been set by the Organising Board. Any swimmers remaining in the water after 11.45 a.m. will be asked to abandon the race.
 
 
All participating swimmers will be accompanied by a support vessel. Ambulance Teams from the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (E.R.R.C.) and Emergency First Response will be in attendance.
 
Mariners are advised to keep a sharp lookout, keep clear of the area during the stipulated time and give the swimmers a wide berth.

Falling Rocks at il-Ponta ta’ Delimara
 
 The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, informs mariners of the danger when navigating in very close proximity to il-Ponta ta’ Delimara due to falling rocks from the cliff face in the area bounded by the imaginary line between points A and B on the chart which can be found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt).
 
The stretch of coast on the western side of il-Ponta ta’ Delimara, from below il-Fortizza ta’ Delimara to the salt pans at the southern end of il-Ponta ta’ Delimara are to be avoided.
 
In view of the above Mariners are not to navigate below the cliff face and if this is absolutely required they are to navigate with extreme caution.

Diving Operations and Research Activities in Marsaxlokk Harbour
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies mariners that with immediate effect, diving and research operations will be carried out in various locations in Marsaxlokk harbour and they are expected to be completed by the end of August 2015.
 
The positions are as follows:

Moreover, they are requested to comply with instructions given by Marsaxlokk Port Control (VTS) on VHF Channel 14.

Local Notice to Mariners No. 53 of 2015

Temporary Zone Reserved for Swimmers - Marsamxett, Valletta

The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies the general public, mariners and owners of vessels regarding the following restrictions in respect of a temporary designated zone reserved for swimmers.

These restrictions shall be in place, from immediate effect, up to the 30th August, 2015.

Mariners and owners of vessels moored within the temporary zone reserved for swimmers as shown on chart that can be found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt) are requested to remove their craft and mooring buoys immediately. Any vessels and mooring buoys left in these areas will be removed. No liability whatsoever will be borne by Transport Malta for any damage to vessels or any damage/loss of mooring buoys and ground tackle that are left in these areas.

The temporary zone reserved for swimmers will be indicated by coloured marker buoys and floating ropes. The ropes may be kept afloat by marker floats in location up to 2 weeks after above mentioned dates.

No vessels or objects which may endanger the safety of bathers, including any type of fishing gear/implements, shall be used within a swimmers’ zone.

The boundaries of the Swimmers’ Zone are as follows:

Local Notice to Mariners No. 54 of 2015

Sailing Regatta at Marsaxlokk Bay, 1st August 2015 and 2nd August, 2015

The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies mariners that the Birżebbuġa Sailing Club shall be holding the annual St Peter’s Sailing Regatta on Saturday, 1st August, 2015 and Sunday, 2nd August 2015.

Races shall be held between 10.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m. (local time) on both days.

Class races shall be held over two (2) adjacent upwind/downwind courses, centered in the selected sailing area depending on the weather conditions at the time. A diagram showing areas A, B, C, D and E is shown on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt).

The courses shall be defined by inflatable marks of about 1.5 meters high around which the competitors shall have to sail.

Masters of all craft not directly involved in this Sailing Regatta are asked to keep clear of the racing area, especially at each of the turning marks and observe any instructions that may be given by the Race Organisers safety craft and by Marsaxlokk Port Control (VTS).

The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies that a swimming event around Comino is being organised on Tuesday, 10th August, 2015.
 
Participants will depart from the area known as il-Matz, Comino (shown as point A on the chart that can be found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt​)) at approximately 7.30 a.m. They are to swim around Comino in an anti clockwise direction as per chart. The swimming event is expected to take around five (5) hours, weather permitting.
 
Support vessels will accompany the participating swimmers at all time.
 
Mariners are advised to keep a sharp lookout and navigate at slow speed and well clear of the area during the stipulated time giving the swimmers a wide berth. They are to obey any instructions issued by Valletta VTS (Valletta Port Control).

Raft Moored at St Julian’s Bay, St Julian’s
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies that the St. Julian’s Scout Group will be holding a Camp-A-Float at St. Julian’s Bay St. Julian’s.
 
The Camp - A - Float consists of a man-made raft complete with a 12-men-tent on board. Weather permitting, the raft will be moored in position “A” on the chart of Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt) between Tuesday, 4th August, 2015 and Sunday, 9th  August, 2015.
 
All craft navigating within the bay are requested to keep a sharp lookout, navigate at slow speed and give the raft a wide berth.

The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies mariners and owners of vessels that a fairway has been established as indicated on the on the chart of Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt) at Santa Marija Bay, Comino.
 
The fairway is delineated by the points W, X, Y and Z and the coastline.

 Man Made Raft Regatta Challenge at

 

St Julians Bay, St Julians

 

 The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies that the Rotary Club Malta will be organising a Kon Tiki regatta challenge at St Julians Bay, St Julians within an area below Independence Garden as shown on the chart on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt). 

 

Participants are to construct a raft and row out for about 50 meters to 70 meters and return back. This regatta will take place on Saturday, 11th July, 2014 between noon and 6.00 p.m.

 

Rescue divers will be present during this activity.

 

Mariners are advised to keep a sharp lookout and navigate at slow speed and keep well clear of the area during the stipulated time giving the man made rafts a wide berth. They are to obey any instructions issued by Valletta Port Control (Valletta VTS) and support vessels in the area.

The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies that the Office of the President is organising The President’s Cruise for Solidarity on Sunday, 12th July, 2015. This event is in aid of the Community Chest Fund, under the auspices of H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta.

9.00 a.m.
 
 
 
From 9.00 a.m. till 10.00 a.m. there will be a display of Jet Fly and Fly board water sports which will take place at Pinto Wharf No 5. (as indicated on chart A in Area “A” that can be found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt)).  
 
 
 
At 9.30 a.m. participating vessels are to assemble in Valletta Grand Harbour in the designated areas. The area is South West of il-Ponta tal-Isla and Pinto Wharf (as shown on attached Chart A) or other areas which may be designated by Enforcement Agencies. They are not to navigate below the St Elmo Bridge as works are in progress. The fairway must be kept clear at all times. No unauthorised vessels are allowed to navigate into Dockyard Creek or South East of Senglea Point and St Angelo point.
 
 
 
10.30 a.m.
 
 
 
The Leading Vessel, with H.E. the President of Malta on Board will depart from Dockyard Creek at 10.30 a.m. It will follow a route to pass through the Valletta Grand Harbour main channel, out of the Breakwaters and cruise along the coast towards St Paul’s Bay (refer to chart B). Once the leading vessel passes St Angelo Point, all vessels are to follow in accordance with the instructions given by the Enforcement Agencies.
 
 
 
11.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
 
 
 
Waters sports will be carried out off the Buġibba quay in the area shown on chart “C”. These are expected to start at about l1.00 a.m. and will end upon the arrival of H.E. the President of Malta which is expected to be between 12.30 p.m. and s-1.00 p.m.
 
 
 
The leading vessel will head to the above mentioned area off Buġibba Breakwater.
 
In view of these activities the outer side of Buġibba Breakwater will be restricted and no vessel is allowed to berth from 10.30 a.m. until this event is over which will be about 2.00 p.m.
 
 
 
Participants are to follow the leading vessel at all times and under no circumstances are to overtake it. Mariners not participating are to navigate with caution and to keep a sharp lookout when in the vicinity to the above-mentioned event and when sighted they are to give the participants a wide berth. They are to obey any instructions that are issued by Valletta Port Control (Valletta VTS), AFM Patrol Boats and Transport Malta, Enforcement Vessels that are in the area and are to abide by the terms and conditions of the event (https://mccf.events.com.mt/presidentscruise).
 
 
 
In view of the above Valletta Grand Harbour will be closed for traffic between 9.30 a.m. and noon or as directed by VTS. Only participating vessels will be allowed to enter harbour to proceed to the designated areas.

In view of the above Mariners are not to navigate below the cliff face and if this is absolutely required they are to navigate with extreme caution.

Swimming Event at il-Ponta tal-Qrejten, Marsaxlokk Bay
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies that the St. Patrick A.C. will be organising a swimming race on Monday, 29th June, 2015 at Il-Ponta tal-Qrejten, Marsaxlokk (near the waterpolo club) in Marsaxlokk Bay. The swimming event will take place between imaginary lines A, B and C as per chart that can be found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt). The race will be held between 7.00 a.m. and 10.00 a.m. local time.
 
Mariners are advised to keep a sharp lookout and navigate well clear of the area during the stipulated date and time, giving the swimmers a wide berth. They are to obey any instructions issued by Marsaxlokk Port Control (Marsaxlokk VTS).

Use of Ċirkewwa South Quay for Demonstration of a Small Aerial Drone
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies all mariners and owners of vessels that there will be a demonstration of an aerial small drone at the Ċirkewwa South Quay on Monday, 22nd June, 2015. This event will be held between 5.30 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. This demonstration will consist of flying this drone over the sea next to the Ċirkewwa South Quay and back. Then it will be directed towards Comino and back again. The drone will be flown at an approximate height of 30m Above Mean Sea Level (AMSL).
 
In view of the above mariners, owners of vessels and water sports operators are instructed not to enter Paradise Bay area without prior permission from the Ports and Yachting Directorate or under instructions of the organisers in the area. Water sports operators using parasailing in the Fliegu ta’ Kemmuna (south Comino Channel) are to note the above and operate with caution due to the flying height of the drone. The quay and in the vicinity is to be free from any berthed/anchored vessels. 
 
Mariners are to comply with instructions issued by Valletta Port Control (VTS), Police and Enforcement Officers.

National Regatta Association - Under 18 Challenge Shield
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies Mariners that the National Regatta Association will be organising the 14th edition of the Under 18 Challenge Shield in Rinella Bay, Kalkara, Grand Harbour.
 
The regatta races will be held on Saturday, 4th July, 2015 from 5.00 p.m. to 9.00 p.m..
 
Four (4) buoys will be laid in the below positions from 11.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., to delineate the race area. No vessel will be allowed to enter the designated area unless by special permission issued by Transport Malta. The buoys will be removed at the end of the races.

Marigold Foundation - Swimming Event between Gozo and Malta
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies that the Marigold Foundation will be organising a swimming event in aid of the Special Olympics and the Marigold Foundation on Saturday, 27th June, 2015 from Gozo, then through Blue Lagoon, Comino and then to Malta.
 
Participants will depart from Gozo from an area between Mġarr Port and Ħondoq ir-Rummien, Gozo at approximately 3.00 p.m. They are to swim through Blue Lagoon, Comino then towards the tuna farm South of Comino then towards Ċirkewwa as per chart that can be found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt) (from A to G). The swimming event is expected to take around five (5) hours, weather permitting. Due to logistics or weather conditions the swimming event may start at Ħondoq ir-Rummien (A1).
 
Support vessels will accompany the participating swimmers and will be listening on VHF Channel 13.
 
Mariners are advised to keep a sharp lookout and navigate at slow speed and keep well clear of the area during the stipulated time giving the swimmers a wide berth. They are to obey any instructions issued by Valletta Port Control (Valletta VTS) and support vessels in the area.

The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies Mariners that fireworks displays will be let off from the foreshore at the Strand Sliema opposite Square Deal outlet up to opposite Cucina Pulita Kiosk (approximate).
 
This area is shown on the chart that can be found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt).  The ground fireworks displays will take place on the following date and time:
Saturday, 4th July, 2015 from 9.00 p.m. till 11.00 p.m.
 
All vessels moored within the indicated area (as per chart) are to be removed on the above-mentioned dates and times of the fireworks displays. The Ports and Yachting Directorate will accept no liabilities whatsoever for any vessels that are left lying in the area on the above mentioned date and times.
 
Masters of these vessels are to obey directives issued by the Valletta Port Control(Valletta VTS), and by the Police in the area.

Swimming event around Comino
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies that the Agones Sports Club will be organising a swimming event around Comino on Tuesday, 23rd June, 2015.
 
Participants will depart from the area known as il-Matz, Comino, shown as point A on the chart found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt) at approximately 7.00 a.m. They are to swim around Comino in a clockwise direction as shown on the chart found on Transport Malta’s website (www.transport.gov.mt). The swimming event is expected to take around four (4) hours, weather permitting.
 
Support vessels will accompany the participating swimmers.
 
Mariners are advised to keep a sharp lookout and navigate at slow speed and keep well clear of the area during the stipulated time giving the swimmers a wide berth. They are to obey any instructions issued by Valletta Port Control (Valletta VTS).

Live Air Gunnery Firing Practice from Pembroke Ranges between 8th and 12th June 2015
 
 The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies that the Armed Forces of Malta shall conduct a live air gunnery firing exercise from the Pembroke Ranges till Friday, 12th June, 2015. The firing exercise will take place between 7.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. local time, (6.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. UTC).
 
The exercise will take place within the area enclosed by the following positions:

The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies mariners that work in the area bounded by the imaginary line connecting the points A, B, C, D and E and the intermediate coastline is scheduled to start with immediate effect and will continue until further notice.

They are to give the above area a wide berth and obey instructions as given by the Marsaxlokk Port Control (VTS) on VHF Channel 14

Special Mark Buoys Delineating the 200 and 300-metre Speed Restriction Zones
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies that with immediate effect special marker buoys will be placed around the Maltese Islands to delineate the 200 and 300-metre speed restriction zones (10 knots and 5 knots) from the shore. The placement of the buoys is seasonal until October but may still be in place after this date.

The following buoys placed at Mġarr ix-Xini, Gozo, Blue Lagoon, Comino, Mellieħa 3 buoys off the beach, and Xemxija inner delineate a 5 knots maximum speed limit.
 
 
Buoys indicate the speed that should never be exceeded and in any case mariners are reminded to proceed at a safe speed at all times subject to the prevailing circumstances and conditions.
 
Mariners are further reminded that it is prohibited to moor any vessel with any of the above buoys or any other buoy owned by the Authority.
 
All positions are referred to WGS 84 DATUM.

Notice to Mariners No. 18 of 2015
 
ROV Surveys Offshore Malta
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate notifies mariners that marine surveys will be carried out with the use of remotely operated vehicle (ROV). These surveys will be carried out from the Maltese coast and up to the 25 Nautical Mile limit, by the catamaran vessel Oceana Ranger.
 
Weather permitting the surveys are scheduled to start on 1st June, 2015 for a period of approximately 2 months. The exact areas of operation depend on the weather conditions and cannot be identified at this stage.
 
Since the vessel will be towing an ROV, it will be restricted in her ability to manoeuvre.
Mariners are instructed to navigate with caution when the above mentioned vessel is sighted and give a wide berth and observe a 1 nautical mile radius restricted zone which will be implemented around the catamaran vessel Oceana Ranger.
 
Further information will be made available through Malta VTS and Valletta Port Control (Valletta VTS) as the survey progresses.

Maintenance works on Saint Elmo Breakwater Bridge, Grand Harbour - Valletta
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta notifies mariners that with immediate effect and until end of September 2015, maintenance works will be carried out on the bridge leading to the St Elmo Breakwater.
 
These maintenance works include removal and replacing of decking, sanding and painting of the bridge.
 
In order to carry out these works, a temporary suspended scaffolding will be installed below the bridge.
 
Masters and vessel operators are instructed that with immediate effect they are not to navigate below the above mentioned bridge due to the possibility of falling objects and the temporary installation of scaffolding.
 
Masters of all vessels are also advised to keep a constant watch on channel 12 for any new information which will be advised by Valletta Port Control (Valletta VTS).

No vessels or objects which may endanger the safety of bathers shall be used within a swimmers’ zone. The swimmers’ zone which is being reserved exclusively for bathers and is delineated by the  following coordinates:

Nylon ropes supported by floats will delineate the swimmers’ zone and may remain in place, two weeks after the stipulated date. 
 
For the benefit and safety of all bathers and mariners, Transport Malta urges all visitors and commercial vessels to adhere to these arrangements. Enforcement Officers will be constantly patrolling the area.
 
Mariners are advised to keep a good lookout and navigate with caution and at slow speed in the Channel between Comino and Cominotto. They are also reminded that it is prohibited to secure/moor any vessel to any of the marker buoys, swimmers’ zone delineation markers and related gear belonging to Transport Malta.

Temporary Mooring of Fish Farm Cage at Bighi Point - Grand Harbour
 
The Ports and Yachting Directorate, Transport Malta, notifies mariners that centered on the position below, with a 50m diameter, a fish farm cage will be moored at Bighi Point, Grand Harbour, as from Tuesday, 5th May, 2015, for two weeks.
 
The cage will be placed in the following approximate position and also be moored to shore
